On Wednesday March 18th, the Mesa Police Department received an emergency call at the Tri-City Motel located at 1504 W. Main St. in Mesa. As officers were still arriving, they received another emergency call from the Bistro-13 Restaurant across the street. The Bistro-13 is run by the East Valley Institute of Technology (E.V.I.T.), located at 1353 W. Main. The same suspect from the motel shooting had shot an adult student at the restaurant during a car-jacking attempt and fled eastbound in a stolen gray Honda Accord.

As this initial investigation commenced, additional calls of shootings came in to 911 in the general vicinity of the first incident. The suspect continued to 949 S. Longmore where he attempted another carjacking, but failed. No one was injured at that location. He then went across to 901 S. Dobson Rd., where he committed a home invasion and shot the fifth (5) victim inside of an apartment. This failed robbery attempt led the suspect to another apartment complex located at 1840 W. Tactical Team members attempted to take the suspect into custody, but he was not compliant. A Taser was deployed on the suspect and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as, 41-year-old, Ryan Elliot Giroux. He is currently being questioned by detectives. A motive for the initial shooting at the motel is still unknown. The last three shootings appear to be motivated by robbery and his attempt to get away.
