Media Release - 2005 Cold Case Homicide Arrest

Homicide Suspect Steven Wightman
The Mesa Police Department has made an arrest on a 2005 cold case homicide. Steven Scott Wightman, of the Minneapolis, MN area, was arrested and booked on September 30 in the homicide of David Reed. The homicide took place at a business located at 1423 S. Country Club Drive in Mesa back on October 16, 2005. Wightman was connected to the homicide through forensic evidence along with good old-fashioned police work.

Wightman was arrested in the city of Belle Plaine, MN with the assistance of local law enforcement, including the Scott County Sheriff's Department. He is being held in the Scott County jail awaiting extradition back to Arizona.

Police Chief John Mesa stated, "I am proud of all the department members involved with this investigation. Their commitment and perseverance has brought another perpetrator to justice, this being the third cold case solved this year. This is a prime example of our department's unrelenting pursuit to public safety."
