ROBBERY
On June 23 at 4:36 pm, a 911 call stating masked subjects had entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 121 S. Power Road was received. Officers responded to the location to investigate the report when they learned it was a false call. Another call was received at 4:42 pm about a bank robbery at the National Bank of Arizona, located at 5555 E. Main Street. The suspect was described as a 35-45 year old white female, 5'3" tall, 110 lbs. with light brown hair. She was wearing a blue and yellow sundress, a cap and flip flops. She was last seen running northeast away from the bank. It was later determined the suspect had placed the original call from a borrowed cellular phone. Investigation continues.

24 Hour Exceptional Incident Report
ASSAULT
On June 17 at 3:53 am, subjects were inside Uncle Monkeys when a customer/suspect inappropriately ‘groped’ a female waitress. This was witnessed by two male subjects who contacted the suspect. A physical altercation ensued and the suspect pulled a knife, stabbing both of the males. The waitress was pushed to the ground and suffered an ankle injury. Both male victims were transported to the hospital for their non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY
On June 17 at 9:58 am, police responded to a panic button activated from a Discount Cab in the area of Extension and Southern. The cab was eventually located in a parking lot near Country Club and Main. The driver reported a subject displayed a handgun and attempted to rob him. The suspect fled on foot across the parking lot; clothing left behind by the suspect was located in a trash can. The suspect was located and detained.
ACCIDENT
On June 17 at 3:03 pm, a 65-year-old male was trying to load his motorcycle onto a trailer, but the battery was dead. He attached a rope to the locking mechanism of the trunk of his vehicle and wrapped the other end of the rope around the handlebars of his motorcycle and held them in place with his hands. He told his wife to accelerate the car and he would “pop the clutch” to start the motorcycle. After accelerating, his wife looked in the rear view mirror and saw that he had released the ropes, but was wobbling side to side, then crashed down. She backed up to where he and the motorcycle were and saw that he was unconscious and bleeding. As she went to call 911, a neighbor came outside already on the phone. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with 4 brain bleeds and a collapsed lung. He is currently in critical, but stable condition.

On June 17 at 11:06 pm, officers responded to an armed robbery at Dominos in the 6500 block of East Main Street. Two white males entered the business armed with handguns and ordered the employees to the rear of the business, forcing them to open the safe and the till. The suspects took an unknown amount of money, then ordered the employees into the bathroom; the suspects then fled on foot. The investigation is on-going.

Media Release – Four subjects in-custody for multiple burglaries.
The Mesa Police Department would like
the community to be aware that three suspects are in custody for a string of burglaries
that occurred between June 14th and June 15th.On June 14th,
a burglary was committed in the area of N Stapley and E. Lehi Rd. during which
numerous firearms and high end jewelry was taken. On June 15th, one
burglary and an attempted burglary were committed in the area of N. Val Vista
Dr. and E Brown Rd during which high end jewelry was taken. A vehicle description was obtained from a
witness of the burglary that occurred on June 15th. A bulletin was
sent out to patrol officers regarding the burglaries. Later in the day on June 15th, an officer
observed a vehicle parked at a motel in the area of S. Williams and E. Main St.
The vehicle matched the description of the vehicle involved in the
burglaries. A traffic stop was conducted
on the vehicle and stolen property was recovered from inside the vehicle.
Michael Gonzalez, Manuel Rios, and Jose Acevedo were taken into custody on
charges related to the burglaries. On June 16th detectives located a
fourth subject wanted in connection with the burglary loading items into his
vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and stolen property was recovered from
inside the vehicle. Scotty Olson was taken into custody on charges related to
the burglaries. All four suspects in custody have numerous arrests and contacts
with the Mesa Police Department. A great
example of teamwork from the numerous Mesa officers and detectives involved.

ARSON
On June 9 at 12:50am, officers responded to a residential structure fire in the 4800 block of S Emery. The residents evacuated the residence prior to arrival and no one sustained any injuries. The first started in an unoccupied upstairs bedroom and the source of the fire could not be determined. Fire investigators responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

The suspect continued to resist arrest and was Tased. The officer suffered injury to his eye. Mesa Fire & Medical treated the suspect at the scene and he was transported to Banner Dessert. The suspect is being charged with multiple charges, including aggravated assault on an officer, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

ASSAULT
On June 8 at 3:57pm, a vehicle east bound on Southern veered left, striking the raised media and colliding with a light pole. A 6-year-old passenger was not restrained and struck his head on the windshield, causing a severe laceration and possible internal injuries. a 9-year-old passenger was restrained and sustained bruises. The driver was suspected of impairment and was arrested for aggravated assault for the 6-year-old's injuries and endangerment for the 9-year-old's injuries. Vehicle Crimes responded and assumed the investigation. A DCS referral was done by patrol.

On June 8 at 8:51pm, a Hispanic male suspect entered the Famous Footwear on E Southern. Suspect confronted the clerk with a knife and demanded money. Once the money was turned over by the clerk, the suspect exited the store and headed west bound on foot. Unknown if the suspect left the area in a vehicle or continued on foot. Suspect described as 5'7" tall, 170 lbs., wearing blue shirt and tan shorts.

24 Hour Exceptional Incident Report
On June 7, 2015 at 5:25 pm, Derek Washington was stopped for a
civil traffic violation in the 00 block of South Date. Washington was drinking
an alcoholic beverage and was on probation. He removed a hypodermic needle from
his pocket and swung it at the officer, resisting arrest. Washington then
pushed the officer and ran. After a foot pursuit, he still had the needle and
was subdued with a Taser. Both Washington and the officer received minor
injuries. Mesa Fire & Medical were called to treat Washington’s injuries. He
was booked on several charges.

Media Release - Child Abuse Arrest
The Mesa Police Department is currently investigating the death of a 1-1/2-year-old female.
At approximately 1:30 am, officers responded to the 2100 block of W Broadway for a report of a child not breathing. When they arrived, a young female was found unresponsive in the apartment. Mesa Fire and Medical arrived and transported the child to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. During the officer's initial contact with the deceased child, there were clear and obvious signs of trauma. It was reported that the child and her 4-year-old brother were at home, in the care of their step-father, when the injury occurred. The mother was away from home for the evening.
When officers arrived, the child's mother, step-father and 4-year-old brother were at the residence. Based on the death and suspicious nature of the injuries, the step-father, Andrew Isaacs (27), was detained for further questioning. Isaacs stated the children were playing and the young female fell and hit her head causing the injury. At one point during the interview, he admitted to "rough housing" with the deceased child.
After the initial investigation and interview, Isaacs was placed under arrest for 1 count of Child Abuse ARS13-3623.A1 for causing injuries to the child. The investigation is on-going pending final results from the Maricopa County Medical Examiners Office.

Media Release - East Mesa Burglaries
The Mesa Police Department would like the community to be aware of two burglary incidents that occurred on May 30, 2015 in the area of Baseline and Ellsworth in Mesa. Both incidents occurred in the early morning hours between 1:00am and 4:00am.
An unknown white male suspect between 20-25 years old, 5'6 - 5'10 tall, 140-150 lbs. was able to gain entry into two separate residences. In both cases, entry was gained through a door or window. It is not clear if the doors and windows were locked at the time. Once inside, the suspect moved throughout the home while the residents were sleeping. Eventually the residents were awakened and the suspect fled the area. At this time it is unknown if any items were taken from the homes. No one was injured in either case.
With the nice evening temperatures, we would like to remind residents to secure their doors and windows at night. Also, anyone who may have seen a suspicious male in their neighborhood near Baseline and Ellsworth on May 30 is encouraged to contact the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211, option 2, or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
