We need your assistance in identifying the following Assault suspect. On October 24, 2017, a uniformed security guard contacted a female on the light rail due to taking her shoes off and causing an unpleasant odor. The suspect got loud and refused to leave when asked. When the light rail stopped again at the Sycamore Station, the suspect impact pushed the security guard, causing a bruise, and fled on foot eastbound along Main St.
Suspect:
Black female, black hair, 25-30 years old, Approximately 5'07" tall, 175-190lbs. Last seen wearing a red jersey style hoody with black sleeves, black pants and dark shoes.

Homicide Arrest
Mesa Police Detectives have arrested Michael A. Abel for one count of First Degree Murder related to an October 18, 2017, homicide investigation. Abel was arrested on October 23, 2017. He is accused in the shooting death of Austin Parton at the Ramada Inn, 1666 S. Dobson, Mesa AZ. The investigation showed that Abel placed an ad online to sell a laptop computer. The victim responded to the ad and met Abel at the Ramada Inn. Abel declined to answer questions about why he shot the victim. This is another example of great detective work to take a violent criminal off the streets.

Suspicious Death Now Updated to Homicide

Over the past week, Detectives have continued to work this death investigation. Yesterday evening, October 10, 2017, Allan Fredrick Lindstrom, age 51, was arrested and charged with one count of 2nd Degree Murder, ARS 13-1104. The victim has been identified as Sharon Vaulding, age 50.
Lindstrom originally reported finding the victim not breathing on the evening of October 2, 2017. When officers arrived at the scene, she was clearly deceased and the cause of death was undetermined. The case was examined by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office and ruled a homicide. The information from the Medical Examiner indicated that victim had been stabbed and beaten. Detectives linked physical and DNA evidence to Lindstrom leading to his arrest.
Lindstrom did not provide statements about the crime and has been booked for the listed charge.

Cold Case Homicide Arrest
The Mesa Police Department is proud to announce an arrest in a 2002
homicide. David Michael Vazquez, age 43, was arrested on September
28, 2017 in Houston Texas for the shooting death of Kelly Hammond in
Mesa. The shooting took place at a house party at 1246 S. Lesueur, Mesa
on November 22, 2002 when it was reported that Vazquez and Hammond got into an
altercation. During the altercation, Vazquez produced a handgun and shot
Hammond several times.
In 2014 the case was re-examined by Cold Case Detectives. Previous witnesses and investigative leads were located and interviewed, ultimately leading to the arrest of Vazquez. This is another example of the determination by Homicide Detectives to provide closure to families on any unsolved cases.
Vazquez is currently in custody in Texas awaiting extradition back to Arizona.

Stolen Backflow Valves
Businesses and commercial locations around the City of Mesa have seen an increase in Backflow valves being stolen. The stolen valves cost between $1000-2000 each to replace. The thieves often cut the valves out causing extensive damage and additional cost to repair. Suspicious Death Investigation Now Updated to Homicide
Detectives have been working overnight on a suspicious death call at the Colonade Motel, 5440 E. Main St. The Homicide Unit stated the investigation appears to be a homicide. There are not many details at this point. The victim is an adult female and the reporting party/investigative lead is an adult male. The homicide appears drug related and isolated to the victim and investigative lead. No arrests have been made at this time. We will provide an update when new information is available.
