On 05/17/18 Mesa Police Responded to a shooting call reported at 550 S Pasadena in Mesa. Officers arrived and located an adult male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He stated he had been shot by a known suspect, later identified as Marcos Martinez. Martinez is the victim’s niece’s boyfriend. Martinez fled the scene in a vehicle which was quickly located by officers near the scene of the crime. Martinez was located as he was walking into an apartment complex and was detained. Martinez later admitted to the shooting and stated it was in self-defense. Witnesses were also located and interviewed, and probable cause was established to charge Martinez with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon, Disorderly Conduct, Discharging a firearm in city limits, Endangerment, and Possession of Marijuana. The swift and attentive response of our officers helped bring a safe ending to a violent crime.
