Media Release - High School Football Coach Arrested for Sexual Conduct with Minor

On July 12, 2015 Mesa Police detectives arrested Sheron M. Butler, 36, for Sexual Conduct with a Minor. Butler is a teacher and football coach at Sequoia Charter School in Mesa.

The investigation began on July 11, 2015 when a 17-year-old female disclosed at summer camp that she was having a sexual relationship with a teacher from her school. The disclosure was made to a counselor, who then contacted the police department. Interviews with the victim confirmed the information to include that the relationship began in early 2015. The victim admitted to having sex with the suspect several times.

Detectives responded to Butler's home in East Mesa where he was taken into custody. Butler answered basic questions, but then requested an attorney and answered no other questions about the crime. Butler was booked for 4 counts of Sexual Conduct with A Minor, a class 2 Felony.
