On September 8 at 7:38 pm, the air unit observed a red convertible sports car traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of 22nd Street and Southern Ave. The air unit observed the vehicle make several other traffic violations and started to direct patrol units into the area. The vehicle entered an apartment complex in the 2100 block of East Southern and drove through exiting on Hampton. A Mesa PD Officer was in the area and observed the vehicle drive past him at a high rate of speed. He attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle failed to yield. The officer did not pursue, but did observe the vehicle run the stop sign at 24th and Holmes. The vehicle then turned north and ran over several bushes on the east side of the road and crashed into the stop sign on the south side of 24th and Hampton. The driver threw an open beer can out of the car and started running southbound. Our officer caught up to the suspect and deployed his Taser.
